Frequently asked questions
How would you describe your style?
I’m a mix of documentary and editorial. The majority of the day I aim to be a fly on the wall, documenting things as they unfold naturally so when you look back on your photos it feels accurate to the memories of the day. I also value your experience over anything else, and I don’t want the day to feel like one big photo shoot.
That being said- I don’t expect you to know exactly what to do all the time with a camera focused on you! so I will help direct a bit when it comes to portraits (family, couple, bridal, etc).
Should I add on a second photographer?
There are different benefits to adding a second throughout the day. I can’t be in two places at once, so if you want photos of both you and your partner getting ready without me bouncing between this is a nice thing to add on. There would then be two vantage points during the ceremony, the second could go to cocktail hour to photograph guests while I’m with you and your families, and you receive more final photos in the end.
I usually recommend a second photographer if your guest count is over 100.
What if you have an emergency and can’t make it to my wedding?
I don’t want to jinx myself, but in 10 years of photographing this has never happened. I’ve shot weddings in all 3 trimesters of pregnancy, sleep deprived, with Covid and an N95 mask on, and through various other personal difficulties. All this to say, if I am physically able to show up, I will be there!
I do recognize sometimes things can happen that are completely beyond our control. There’s a wonderful community of photographers here in Asheville, and we’re all pretty well connected and help each other out in case of an emergency. I’m confident I could find someone to replace me in the event I couldn’t make it.
I would choose someone with a similar shooting style to mine, and edit the photos myself, to ensure they are consistent with what you see in my portfolio and know you’re in good hands.
Can I send you a shot list?
Sure! I send a questionnaire about a month before the wedding and this would be a great place to include details of anything you want to make sure I capture.
Every wedding is different, so while I’m happy to recreate a pose from Pinterest just know it will never look exactly like the original because you and your day are their own unique things.
Can I see a full wedding gallery?
Absolutely, here’s a few recent ones
What if it rains?
I go with the flow. I’m confident shooting in a variety of indoor and outdoor scenarios, with or without flash, and I have a rain jacket and my gear is fine to get a little damp. Also fine with waiting a bit to see if it passes on through. I’m here and ready for whatever happens!
Do you have backup equipment?
I sure do. I have two cameras at all times, each with two memory card slots, so each photo is copied onto the second card as I shoot. I backup the files to a hard drive as soon as I get home. These precautions mean I’ve never lost wedding files due to faulty gear.
How many final photos can I expect to receive?
Typically I deliver 75-100 photos per hour of coverage. So for an 8 hour day this would be somewhere in the range of 600-800 final images.
Do I have full rights to my photos?
The short answer is no. But you do have full printing rights as granted in our contract. This means you can’t profit from your wedding photos (such as selling them to a magazine or blog) but you do receive them in their highest resolution and will have those copies forever to use however you personally want.
Will you send the photos to my other vendors?
Yes! I make sure to send the final gallery to everyone that worked hard to make your day happen. They can download and use the photos for their social media and websites. (Or, if you don’t want me to share them, just let me know and I can keep them private.)
