Michigan Wedding on the Lake / Melanie & Matt
Melanie and Matt knew they wanted to get married on the lake no matter what the forecast said. The cluster of cottages there, forming the community of Wabigama tucked back in the woods outside Traverse City, was started by her great-grandfather decades ago and has been passed down through the generations. It’s where she spent her childhood summers sleeping on the “girls’ porch” and taking baths in the lake.
So they loaded up on umbrellas and prepared to say their vows in the rain. Matt’s brother officiated, opening with memories of Melanie’s mom who passed away a few years ago and everyone was in tears. Matt’s parents’ read a bible verse and interpreted its meaning and significance on this special day, and each bridesmaid said something as well. It was a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony and not a drop fell from the sky.
At the reception the toasts were both hilarious and touching. We all ate cherry pizza and pie and danced in the rain.
I loved how everyone came together from all over the country to celebrate these two, and the importance of that wasn’t lost in the details, decorations, or weather. It all worked out as it should and I’m so honored to have been a part of it all.
