Spain Adventures | Things to see in Sevilla, Granada, and Madrid

Spain is a gorgeous place to visit should you ever have the chance to go. While we did our best to see the things the internet told us we should explore, Jenna and I spent the majority of our time walking through the cities and taking it all in. That was the highlight of the trip for me.

Since we visited in August the weather was hot hot hot. Every day Spaniards get up early to work and then take a siesta in the afternoon. Businesses close during the heat of the day so people can sleep through it and then things really come alive at night. The streets fill with flamenco dancers and everyone gathers at the sidewalk cafes for dinner and drinks with their nieghbors.

Sevilla was our favorite city by far. Something about the culture there, the friends we made, and the food set the bar pretty high. Below is my list of recommendations should you ever find yourself there.

Sevilla

  • Alcazar
  • Jewish quarter neighborhood
  • El Riconcello
  • Bicicletteria bar
  • Metropol Parasol- a giant wooden sculpture inspired by mushrooms. You can take an elevator and walk around the top for a couple euros.
  • Visit a Flamenco bar
  • Nomad Hostel- my favorite place we stayed. Everyone was so friendly!
  • El Plaza España

Granada

  • Do a night tour. Highlight of our trip. We visited the gypsy caves, saw the city from the best viewpoint in town, and crawled through ancient tunnels with a headlamp.
  • Visit the Alhambra

Madrid

  • Also worth a walking tour- lots of history here
  • Eat authentic churros!
  • Plaza Mayor
  • Visit or stay at The Hat
